Who is behind it

The Brew Reaper is an independent coffee site, built in Perth. It is not owned by a coffee brand, a roaster or a machine retailer, and nobody pays to be mentioned.

Meet Laura, our author

Laura is the venue manager at one of Perth's most respected specialty coffee bars, a café Time Out Perth ranks among the city's top ten coffee shops and Broadsheet named its best coffee bar of 2018. It pours its own house blend alongside rotating guest roasters from Perth and overseas. Before that, she was a barista in a high-volume specialty coffee shop in London, where she dialled in espresso every day, and in busy cafés across Western Australia. She checks the brew guides on The Brew Reaper, so the recipes match how real cafés make them.

How the numbers are checked

Grinder settings and basket sizes come from the makers. Each one is taken from the grinder or machine's own instruction book or a published source, and the source is linked right next to it in Barista mode. That covers 8 grinders and 8 espresso machines so far. If a maker does not publish a number, we do not guess one.
The guides and the calculator always agree. Every strength table and recipe in the guides is built from the same maths as the calculator, and an automated check fails if they ever drift apart.
Recipes are starting points. Every bean, grinder and machine is a little different, so taste and adjust.
The Perth roasters list is not paid. 9 local roasters, listed A to Z, each with the source we checked.

No accounts, no tracking cookies

There is nothing to sign up for. Saved recipes and your own grinder settings stay on your own device. Café house cards live inside their share link, so there is no database.
